Philanthropy in Spring 2008

The sisters of Kappa Delta Sigma brought incredible enthusiasm to the field of community service and philanthropy in the spring of 2008.

Our big event of the semester was a 5K run/walk around the Kip Trail at St. Lawrence. We had 46 participants and raised $300 for the American Cancer Society. We chose this foundation because we felt it honored sisters, family members, and friends who have been affected by cancer. The Fall 2007 pledge class raised $400 in a 50/50 raffle and combined it with $170 from breast cancer t-shirt sales for a total of $570 going to the Susan G. Komen Women for the Cure Foundation.

We also had over 20 sisters participate in Canton’s “Spring Make A Difference Day.” Girls split into groups and went to neighbors’ houses to help them get their yards ready for the spring. We still have many sisters involved in SLU Buddies and, this semester, we helped out by facepainting at the SLU Buddies Carnival.

In addition to all of these events, the sisters have helped out at the Food Pantry, Bingo at the nursing home, ReachOut, tutoring, and other activities around campus and the community.
